It's truly a difficult task to put into words the profound impact a meal prepared by the The Beast & Spoon's crew has on one's trip to the islands. Never in my years on earth had I experienced a meal that is truly life-changing, but here I am sharing this wonderful experience! He and Marluy worked with us before our recent trip to Maui to plan a memorable, delicious meal that included something for everyone. We traveled with picky teens so planning a meal that everyone would enjoy was a challenge. All I can say is that the result was AMAZING!!! Everything was amazing, fresh, and locally sourced, which was a nice bonus. Even our resident foodies were impressed. We used Beast and Spoon on our family vacation to celebrate my parents 40th wedding anniversary. We have two small kids and it seemed like a great way to have a special dinner and not be at a fancy restaurant. Beast and Spoon did not disappoint. They were fantastic to work with. Easy to get in contact with and super friendly. The food was fabulous and they were very professional. It was a wonderful experience and worth the money. My parents loved it and it was the highlight of the trip. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a special celebration.

IT WAS ENTERTAINMENT AND EDUCATION

We recently hired the Beast and Spoon to prepare an anniversary feast for us, our three children, their spouses, and four grand children ranging in age from 8-13, for a total of 12 diners. My wife spoke initially with Marluy and then Daniel to finalize the menu which included Ahi Tuna poke, Portuguese sausage tacos, pickled cucumbers, 18 hour smoked Kahlua pork, Monchong fish, Maui chopped salad, Hawaiian fried rice, and Bananas Foster.
Without going into the details of how delicious the food was, the other big highlight was their friendliness, openness and encouragement to get involved with some preparation and questions of what they were doing. It was much more than just eating wonderful food, it was an evening's entertainment and education.
Starting with their arrival with all their coolers and cookware, they set up the tables, prepared the food, and did a better job of cleaning up afterward then we would have done.
The big test which was passed with flying colors was that our grandchildren ate everything and wanted more. They said they hoped that we would celebrate our 51st anniversary the same way!
This was definitely the highlight of our week in Maui and was an event which will be remembered and treasured by all of us.

These people are super cool on top of making amazing food! We had a brunch for a friend's birthday and they made bacon and eggs and scrambles and peppers and fruit and sausage and everything. LITERALLY EVERYTHING WAS TERRIFIC

This was easily the best meal we had while on Maui - and that includes a couple of the most highly rated restaurants on the island. The food was excellent - I might normally say what was good and what wasn't, but this was a case where literally everything was terrific. I doubt you can go wrong with the menu choices, which change depending upon what's in season. Chef Daniel and Marluy were a pleasure - from menu planning, to accommodating food preferences, to executing and serving the food well, to bringing lovely presences to our condo at the Montage, my entire family felt it was a great experience. As a bonus, we also met Marluy's mom - which was also a pleasure. A personal chef dinner has gone particularly well when at the end, we all sat on the lanai, sipped wine and chatted about Maui and other topics. Our four person dinner was a piece of cake for them. I suspect they could handle large catering events easily. Highly recommended.

We just returned from Maui and were so very fortunate to have had The Beast & Spoon work their magic for our 50th anniversary dinner celebration. Daniel, Marluy and Marluy's Mom are a team extraordinaire. Daniel and Marluy prepared one of the most incredible meals of our lives for our party of eight and we couldn't have been more thrilled. It couldn't have been a better experience! Chef Daniel and Marluy were an amazing team. A flawless show of excellent cooking paired with interesting and informative information about each dish. Very hard to choose my favorite dish but the lamb kabobs with homemade tzatziki, fresh ahi poke with a delicious sea cucumber salad and bananas fosters are just a few! I wish we would have had them cook every night instead of eating out in Maui, it was the best meal and most comfortable experience we had by far!

A friend of mine hired them to do a brunch for her birthday. They made freshly squeezed juice for our mimosas and were really cool and laid back. MORE IMPORTANTLY - the food was absolutely amazing. My wife and I recently treated friends from the mainland to a catered brunch at Ocean Vodka catered by The Beast & Spoon (Chef Daniel and Marluy). It was part of a package they generously donated to Make-a-Wish. We had such a fabulous time. The food was great and the view was ideal for a brunch. The hard part was catering in high winds. We happened to pick a day that was extremely windy with gust to 25-30 kts. Despite this Daniel and Marluy did a fantastic job. We plan to use them again when we go back to Maui for another event.

We needed a roasted pig for a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony! From the initial contact to the delivery of the pig we were extremely impressed with the professionalism of Marilou and the chef. They were so accommodating and understood the significance of the pig at our ceremony. The presentation of the pig was so important they made sure it looked great complete with flowers surrounding it and an apple in his mouth!! The best part was the taste!! Our guests raved about the meat which was superb, so moist and tender. While in Maui we ate in several 5 star restaurants but I have to say our best meal was the roasted pig. Thank you!!

THEIR ENERGY WAS WARM AND FOCUSED

My family just finished an 8 day vacation together in Paia and we had the pleasure of sharing two of our evenings with Marluy & Daniel. The nights they cooked for us were fantastic. If you're thinking of going with a private chef experience, they are definitely the ones to choose.
Setting things up was super simple, a few emails, a phone call and we were booked- nights chosen and menu selected. Their energy when they showed up was warm and focused as they began all the prep work and that same warm energy was maintained even with the challenge of my two young kids constantly sneaking in to watch, learn, and play. Everything they put together for us was fresh, organic, and locally sourced (when available) and we loved it all. If it is any indication of how wonderful everything was, our boys ATE EVERYTHING that was put in front of them! And not only was the food sensational, Daniel and Marluy were a delight to have in our home.
If you are in Maui, and have the opportunity to stay at home and have them prepare a meal for you, do it. You will not be disappointed and you're surely remember it.

The whole experience with Marluy and Chef Daniel was exceptional. From the initial conversation in discussing the menu accommodating personal preferences through to the night itself - everything was first-rate. Nothing was left to chance as we created a very special surprise dining experience for my Wife's 40th Birthday. Chef Daniel created a special kids only menu so that they were fed and out of the way before the Main Event! For 3 of the pickiest eaters ever - it was certainly a great treat to see them happily eating. What followed was an incredibly special meal including 4 fabulous courses including Poke Bar - Ahi Tuna, Watermelon Salad, Seared Monchong which was out of this world with an amazing red pepper coulis sauce and finished off with tropical fruits and ice cream. Chef Daniel even did a special Birthday Carrot Cake so that we could celebrate the occasion. AMAZING!!!! All around from the service to the quality of the food everything was just fantastic. Our menu was not the easiest to accommodate with GF, Vegan, and Veg all in our group, but they made it happen and it all tasted unreal.
